Lagos - German Foreign Minister,
Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who
denounced latest attacks by the
Boko Haram sect in Nigeria,
disclosed ways of intensifying the
fight against the terrorists will be
explored at the upcoming G7
Summit scheduled for his country.
He noted on Tuesday the meeting
will come under renewed attacks by
the outlawed group despite the
Nigerian government recently made
headway against the terror group.
Steinmeier encouraged President
Muhamamadu Buhari to intensify
the war against the Islamic militants
adding this would be discussed at
the G7 Summit slated for Sunday .
“Nigeria has made some progress in
this area in recent weeks. I strongly
encourage President Buhari to keep
up his efforts in the fight against
terror and to take steps to deepen
regional cooperation, and especially
the partnership with the
neighbouring countries Niger, Chad
and Cameroon.
This will also be our message at the
talks that we will hold with our
African partners on the fringes of
the G7 Summit,” said Steinmeier.
He condemned the latest attacks by
the terror group.
On Tuesday, at least 13 people were
killed and 24 others injured in a
suicide attack on an abattoir in the
northeastern city of Maiduguri, hours
after Boko Haram attacked the city.
“Brutal attacks by Boko Haram in
Nigeria have once again claimed
many lives. I share the pain of the
relatives of the victims and wish to
offer them my heartfelt
condolences.”
