Panic as cultists go on rampage, kill nine in Imo

their safety.
The exact cause of the pandemonium could
not be ascertained at press time and Pulse
quoting The Punch gave different versions
of what led to the massacre.

According to Punch, some residents, who
have fled the community for fear of being
killed, said the fight was over crude oil
deposits in the area. It however quoted
another source as saying the incident was
caused by the imposition of traditional
rulers on the people by the state
government.
A man, Kingsley Igwe, whose brother was
allegedly killed by the cultists, said “The
incident happened on Monday morning
while he was on a visit. Those men attacked
him at the market square and shot him
dead. He was married with two children and
his wife was pregnant.
